COVID-19: Canadians advised to avoid non-essential international travel amid Omicron concerns | FULL
Canadian Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said Wednesday that the federal government was officially advising Canadians to avoid non-essential travel outside Canada. He also said they were expanding their arrival testing capacity of travellers but there would be more to say “in the near future.”
Duclos also spoke about vaccines and rapid testing amid calls from the provinces and territories to provide more supply so they can ramp up their own programs. He said deliveries of both were already underway, with about 85 million test kits already having been distributed prior to December and an additional 35 million tests being delivered. He also said there were about 16 million booster doses were available in stock. Asked if there were would be enough to give a booster to all Canadians, Duclos said the 16 million were in stock both federally and in some provinces as well, with millions more coming in the next few weeks.
Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, asked if the current measure of allowing no PCR test having to be taken for short trips to the U.S. could change, said the government was constantly reassessing measures and would announce a change if one may be implemented.
